In December 2023, NMD LLC from an Eastern European country reached out to SmartLathe, represented by their technical expert Alexey Postnov. Their mission was clear yet challenging: efficiently produce long, slender workpieces with high precision and stability — a task that often strains conventional CNC lathes due to vibration and deflection issues.
After analyzing the technical drawings provided by NMD, our engineering team quickly identified the ideal solution:
The SL-36 Gang-Type CNC Lathe, offering robust multi-axis turning and milling capabilities within a compact footprint.
The SW-205 Swiss-Type CNC Lathe, perfectly suited for long part machining with its sliding headstock and guide bushing design.
Together, these two machines formed the ultimate combination for precision machining of slim parts.

Machining Simulation
From Factory Tour to Full Commitment
In April 2024, Alexey visited our factory in China. During this visit, he experienced firsthand SmartLathe’s production scale, engineering professionalism, and attention to detail. More importantly, our engineering team conducted a real-time evaluation of his long-part machining requirements, reinforcing his confidence in our solution.
After the tour, Alexey officially ordered:
Production moved swiftly. By June 2024, both machines were built, tested, and completed with sample machining based on NMD’s part drawings.

Seeing their parts precisely machined on SmartLathe equipment gave NMD even greater confidence. In late June, the machines were securely packed and shipped to their facility in Eastern Europe, arriving safely in August 2024.
To honor our commitment, in September 2024, the SmartLathe technical team traveled to NMD's site in Eastern Europe for a five-day on-site installation, commissioning, and custom training.
During the visit:
Machines were professionally installed and calibrated.
Operators received in-depth training — from part setup to tool management to program optimization.
Live production parts were run, ensuring NMD’s team gained hands-on confidence.
As Alexey commented during training, “Every machine design has its own language. With SmartLathe’s guidance, we can now fully unlock the potential of these machines.”

Since installation, the SL-36 and SW-205 have been performing excellently, helping NMD produce a wide range of high-precision, slender components.
